Changing CU through Transportation Enhancements

In our last general meeting of the year, we welcomed Sean Widener and Becca Wagner, consultants on the multi-million dollar Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) project that was only one of two projects in Illinois that received a federal TIGER grant in that cycle, to talk to members about the history and conception behind the project, planned improvements to iconic campus locations, and what all that means for the local community.

We had a healthy turnout and plenty of questions about the project.

GM with Jay Rank

ITE UIUC Student Chapter held its first General Meeting of the Spring 2016 semester on 2/4/2016 with Jay Rank, Planner at CUMTD, speaking about operations at the MTD. The event was well-attended with close to 60 people turning up to listen to the very interesting talk. The talk lasted about 30 minutes and the speaker took questions and interacted with students for a whole hour after that.

Abdul Rauf, President, thanked the speaker for his time and presented him with an Illinois coffee mug as a mark of appreciation. We look forward to more great talks in the future.

The first ITE General Meeting of the year was held in 1311 Newmark on Sept. 22, 2015. Hani Ramezani, PhD candidate under Prof. Ray Benekohal, discussed his research on harmonized traffic flows. His research is an example of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications being used to improve safety and reliability, particularly in hazardous or congested conditions. The meeting was well-attended by a mix of graduate and undergraduate students. M. Abdul Rauf, President, ITE UIUC Student Chapter, also discussed the upcoming TES Conference and opportunities for students.
