Thank you to all those who attended our Chicago Networking Tour to four top Transportation Engineering firms! It was a great day talking to professionals, passing resumes, and seeing what life is like in the big league. Stay tuned for more ITE events.
ITE UIUC is proud to host the third annual Chicago networking trip in collaboration with ITE Illinois Section. We are excited to be able to take our members to network with top transportation firms in downtown Chicago. The current firms include Jacobs and CivilTech, but will also include at least one more company. This is a great opportunity to talk directly to the top engineers at the firms and exchange resumes.
The trip will be on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. We will meet outside Newmark Civil Engineer Lab (outside the Yeh Center on Matthews Ave) at 7 AM and return by 6 PM. We have limited seats on the bus, so it will be on a first come first serve basis.
If you’re interested, please go to tinyurl.com/ITEChicago16 and fill up the form by midnight Saturday, Oct. 29. The event will cost $15 per student. See the attached flyer for details.
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (CUMTD) hosted a delegation from ITE to show us their operations center that keeps the area’s largest transit system running – everyday, everytime!
On April 5, 2016, ITE UIUC student chapter took 34 members to visit O’Hare International Airport for a tour. We say the United Airlines Cargo Facility, the sixth largest in the world, air side facilities (including some cool military hardware), and the CDA Operations Tower. Participants clicked tons of pictures and videos of planes landing and taking off.
We’d like to thank the Engineering Council, United Airlines, Chicago Department of Aviation, and ITE Illinois for making this tour possible. We hope to make it a regular feature.
ITE is organizing a field trip to Chicago O’Hare International Airport next month. For just $15 (including travel and food), we will be seeing the United Cargo handling facility, the airfield features, and the CDA Operations Tower. The flyer above has more details.

ITE UIUC Student Chapter went on a tour of Willard Airport, owned by the University of Illinois and home to the aviation program at Parkland College. Participants in groups of 14 were taken on a bus tour of airfield facilities, including the runway and taxiways. An on the fly tutorial about reading airfield pavement markings was followed by a display of how some of the planes took off and landed, and how the Air Traffic Control managed the entire operation.
The tour also included a behind-the-scenes view of the baggage distribution system and the local fire station (which had some very expensive equipment indeed). ITE would like to thank the staff and administration at Willard Airport for taking their time to educate us about this valuable component of our community.
ITE will be taking students on a tour of Willard Airport on Tuesday, 2/16, from 2-4 PM (meet outside the Yeh Center at 1.30 PM). The tour will include a wayside bus tour of the facilities at the airport. Seating in the bus is limited, so please sign up soon! We will be going by first come first serve. If you can drive people to the airport, you can jump ahead of the line.

ITE took students to Chicago last week to meet representatives from AECOM, AES, CivilTech and TY Lin as part of its annual Chicago Trip. This year, we took about 35 students, who greatly enjoyed the event. Illinois ITE co-funded the event together with the student chapter.

Many thanks to ASCE T&DI and AREMA student chapters for helping us publicize the event!
Three graduate students from UIUC traveled to the 2013 ITE Midwestern District Conference in Milwaukee, WI, to compete in the annual traffic bowl. They played against seven other universities, some whom have competed previously and a new team as well. They advanced to the final round with a few bumps or two, but played a good game against their competitors. They eventually lost to Iowa State, which has also been competing for some time. Other ITE members also went along to network and check out technical presentations and posters. A round of applause for the team – although they didn’t advance to nationals like last year’s team, they placed 2nd in the final round in the ITE Midwestern District Conference! Pictures of the trip and technical tour of Southwest’s facilities and Milwaukee’s Mitchell airport can be found on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.624416367577362.1073741826.163431517009185&type=3
