2017-2018 Officers
President: Nick Fishburn
Civil Engineering (Senior)
I have had the desire to make a profound impact on our nation’s transportation infrastructure networks since I was a little kid. This passion came about through observing the many construction sites that popped up around my hometown of Palatine in Northwest suburban Chicagoland. I am a junior studying Structural and Transportation Engineering within the CEE department. In addition to my studies, I am a member of the Marching Illini Drumline on the snare drum. I have been drumming since the age of seven, and I most enjoy playing and listening to jazz, funk and R&B. I am a self-proclaimed aviation enthusiast, often plane spotting at O’Hare Airport. The goal is to obtain my pilot’s license after graduation and turn my enthusiasm into a full-time hobby! As the President for ITE this year, I am excited to see where we can go and what we can accomplish!
Vice-President: Tanay Gupta
Mechanical Engineering (Senior)
I am fascinated behind the logistics of air transport, particularly with making flight routing more efficient. I love interacting with both people who are passionate about transportation and those with more diverse interests. Being in the outdoors for hiking or playing sports also makes for a good break from engineering studies. As an ITE officer, my goal is to bring out those underclassman looking for a way to vent their interdisciplinary interests as they relate to transportation as well as to help all members involved have an enjoyable time, all the time.
Graduate Adviser/Board Member: Jacob Mathew
Civil Engineering (Grad)
I am Jacob Mathew, a third year grad student in civil engineering. I am pursuing my MS with a specialization in transportation engineering. I am working on data visualization techniques with an objective to easily identify accident trends at highway rail grade crossings. With these tools at hand, let me see if I can look into the future. Swimming, programming and music are some of my favorite past times and I have recently become addicted to a guitar that I bought over the summer. ITE has been a great platform for me to meet with like minded people, professionals and practitioners in transportation engineering. It’s been great working with the other officers and I am very happy to be a member.
Treasurer: Arturo Woodward-Montes
Civil Engineering (Junior)
I am seeking to learn more about transportation systems everywhere. Everything from air transit to roadway transit intrigues me. Construction for new systems is everywhere, and every time I pass by sites on roadways I wonder why they are doing the work that they’re doing. In the future, I hope to be the one that decides the need for a new project and also hope to be the one implementing it, too. For now, ITE has been a great learning experience and a phenomenal outlet to the transportation industry. I’m looking forward to the up and coming year.
I am a senior undergraduate student in Civil Engineering. I am interested in public transportation. I am pleased to study in an environment with a good public transportation system unlike many places in the U.S. I have a diverse background having studied and grown up in three different countries: South Korea, Australia, and the United States. I enjoy traveling and learning about new cultures. I enjoy playing sports, guitar, and video games. With ITE, I have been able to meet people who share common interests and learn a lot about careers in transportation.
